A 20-day-old Dalit baby died within half an hour allegedly after intaking polio drop organised on Monday at Balrampur under Kandira GP of Rajnagar police station. According to sources, the baby of Sanjay Mallick had been administered the dose in a polio vaccination camp held at Nuagaon School.
But he died within 30 iminutes, after taking the drops.According to Sanjay Mallick, his son was suffering from severe cold and had been given medicines on January 30. However, ASHA of Balarampur, Minati Lenka insisted him to take the baby to the vaccination camp on January 31.
“But to our ill luck,after intaking polio drop, my son fell sick and later died," said Yasoda, mother.When contacted, Paediatrician Dr Kishore Mishra of DHH Kendrapada stated that a baby within a month should not be allowed to take polio drops.
Meanwhile, a complaint has been filed at Rajnagar police station and the police have registered an unnatural death case. An inquiry is on, informed Rajnagar PS IIC Tapan Kumar Nayak.
