A two-year-old boy was rescued from a pond in the Town police station area of Koraput district on Thursday. But the identity of the child was yet to be ascertained.
Sources said an unidentified person rescued the child from Jagannath Sagar pond near Panchanan temple in Jeypore town and went away leaving the kid on the pond side.
Finding the child in an unconscious state, another villager rescued him and admitted him to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). His condition was stated to be critical till last reports came in.
However, it is yet to be ascertained whether the child had accidentally fallen into the pond or someone attempted to kill him.
On receiving information, police along with Childline officials reached the spot and are investigating into the incident from all angles.
