Two women were killed and seven other perons were critically injured in a head on collision between an auto-rickshaw and a 102 Ambulance at Poigaon bridge under the Lahunipada police station of Sundargarh district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Priyanka Sahoo (20) and Malati Kishan (60), both resident of Raikalaposh in the district.
Sources said the mishap occurred when the auto-rickshaw with eight passengers on board was returning from Bonei to Raikalaposh. The impact of the collision was severe that both the vehicles plunged from the bridge.
The injured including the auto-rickshaw driver were shifted to the Rourkela Government Hospital.
“The driver of the ambulance fled from the spot after the mishap. We are on the lookout for him,” said the Lahunipada PS IIC.
