Congress councillors of Ward-10 Gapal Rao and Ward-13 Muna Padhy of the Umarkote NAC were expelled from the party on Wednesday for allegedly indulging in anti-party activities.
The duo had remained absent during the election for the post of chairperson on Monday, as a result of which proposed Congress candidate Nirmal Dhuria failed to file his nomination to fight the BJD nominee Pinky Agrawal, who was elected uncontested.
The PCC took the action against the two councillors on the report of the Nabarangpur District Congress Committee, said Umarkote Town Congress president Bighnaraj Santra.
