2 quintal sandalwood donated to Puri Lords

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on Thursday received two quintals of sandalwood from one Sakaleswar Rath of Ganajam district.

Rath, who hails from Khallikote, was present with his father Artatran Rath and other family members at Puri.

The donated sandalwood comprises 17 logs, 22 branches, 9 root portions, besides 3 kg of Chheli, the residual pieces left after cutting.

Sources said two years ago, Rath had first contacted the SJTA intending to donate his sandal tree grown up in his house yard. Earlier, he had distributed sandal saplings in Puri also. However, the forest clearance was a constraint for cutting the sandal tree.

Meanwhile, after getting the needed clearance, the tree was chopped in presence of Khallikote Ranger Sidharth Sankar Sahu before sending the logs to the Puri Jagannath Temple.

Among others, Puri ADM Binay Kumar Dash and Deputy Administrator (Revenue) SJTA Subrat Kumar Behera during donation of sandalwood were present.
