The Commissionerate police on Monday arrested two members of a gang who were involved in a series of cash snatching incidents near various banks here recently.
The accused were identified as Badal Gowala (34) and Aniket Das (22).
City DCP Umashankar Dash said the criminals were involved in at least four cash snatching incidents between March 5 and 10. They had looted a total of around Rs 12 lakh in the cases reported from the Saheed Nagar, Kharavel Nagar and Chandrasekharpur police station areas.
“We stepped up patrolling near banks after the cash snatching incidents witnessed a rise. One of our teams gave some criminals a chase on March 10, but they managed to escape,” said Dash.
Dash further said the two accused are members of a notorious Bihar-based gang and they used stolen motorbikes to commit crimes. They mostly targeted people who were returning from banks after withdrawing money.
