Two minor children lost their lives and three others had a narrow escape when a portion of a land near a newly-dug up pond where they were playing caved in at Magurganda Patana village under the Sadar police station in Kendrapada district on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Surendra Chamia (13) and Surendra Chalk(7). Both were playing with three other children, when the mishap occured.
The deceased fell into the pond and lost thier when the land subsided. The other boys , who returned home maintained silence and didn’t inform anyone about the incident.
But when the two did not return home, their families and nieghbours launched a search for them. Later, both were fished out of the pond and rushed to a hospital. But the doctor declared them dead.
A pall of gloom descended in the village after the mishap.
