Two minor boys were killed and another was injured at Kathasangara in the Remuna area of Baleswar district after heaps of sand collapsed on them on Tuesday. The injured was undergoing treatment in the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here.
The deceased were identified as Sankar Bindhani (5) of Badajor village and Siba Bindhani (10) of Rugda village under the Betnoti area in Mayurbhanj district. The injured was identified as Deba Bindhani (6). They were children of brick kiln workers. The incident occurred at about 1.15 pm when the children were playing on a heap of sand stored near a brick kiln.
Following the deaths, a palpable tension surfaced in the area for some hours. The situation was pacified by the timely intervention local police and Remuna Tehsildar Binay Mohanty. The deceased’s family members were given Rs 10,000 each from the Red Cross fund and Rs 2,000 each under the Harishchandra Yojna. The injured would be treated free of cost, said Mohanty.
