In a significant achievement, the Commissionerate police busted two looter gangs by arresting as many as eight gang members of both the gangs.
Police have seized 70 smartphones, 23 laptops and nine motorcycles from their possession.
The accused were identified Ranjan Satpathy (20) of Chakeisiani, Sanjaya Behera (23) of Mali Sahi , Mantu Paikray (38) of Palamandap Sahi, Baramunda, Chandan Pradhan (27) of Mahabir Nagar, Samantrapur, Bhagabata Prasad Mohapatra (32) of Tangi Sahi, Gurujanga, Sk Zawed (37) of Hata Sahi Muslim Basti, Nimapada Alok Behera (28) of Gop area in Puri, and Pradip Das (33) of Nimapada.
The accused belong to two groups of robbers. One of the groups used to lift laptops and mobile phones in Khandagiri and Tomando areas of the city and later disposed it off to buyers.
The other group was involved in snatching mobile phones and motorcycles from people during early morning hours after finding the victims alone, police sources said.
