Vigilance police recovered `2 lakh from Subarnarekha Irrigation Project Director Raj Kishore Acharya while intercepting him at Rangamatia Chowk, Baripada on Saturday.
Acharya could not account for the money he was carrying in a car to his native village Khadua in Kendrapada district, an official release said.
Acharya had retired as Rangeilunda BDO on superannuation on June 30, 2010. But he was reemployed on May 18, 2011 and is working as Project Director, RR, Subarnrekha Irrigation Project, laxmiposi, Baripada. He is alleged to have collected the money as gratification from different sources. A case has been registered against him. His house and quarter are under search and the case is under investigation, the release added.
