Two labourers were electrocuted at Vyasa Sarowar Pitha here while they were cutting an iron rod with an electric cutter machine.
They were identified as Sk Washim (22) and Indrajit Mandal (19), both under Malda Police Station in West Bengal. The incident occurred at about 10 am. Soon after the mishap occurred, they were shifted to the nearest Jajpur Road Area Hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.
They were working under a construction company, Krishna Builders, for upgradation works of historical Vyasa Sarowar pond for last three to four years. However, many alleged that the company is executing the works very slowly. The workers are denied EPF and ESI benefits.
Jajpur Road IIC Upendra Kumar Pradhan rushed to the spot and started an inquiry. Pradhan said that the deceased family members were informed about the incident.
