Two of the four ward members of Naraj Panchayat, who allegedly abducted their woman sarpanch on Monday night and threatened her to resign from the post, were arrested by the Commissionerate Police on Tuesday. Two others allegedly involved in the crime are still at large.
Police have continued search to trace them. Sources said Ullasa Behera, Sarpanch of Naraj GP under the Barang police station, was taken to a place near Tamando on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on the pretext of discussing with the local MlA about some dispute. She screamed when the accused manhandled her and forced her to sign some documents stating her resignation from her post.
The accused also threatened to kill her, police sources said. When she resisted, she was thrown out of the vehicle. The 38-year old dalit sarpanch, who sustained injuries on her head, reached the nearest police station with help of some local people and lodged a complaint.
