2 held during SBI ATM loot attempt in B'swar

Published on:

Two miscreants in their mid-twenties were apprehended by the Sahadevkhunta police when they were trying to loot an SBI ATM on the railway station premises here on Sunday night.

They were nabbed after police swung into action following receipt of alert from Global Information Technology Centre (GITC) Mumbai that something abnormal was happening to the machine. The duo identified themselves as Mithun Singh of Dinajpur and Sudev Roy of Murshidabad district in West Bengal. They claimed that they were system engineers but failed to show any testimonials to prove their claims aggravating suspicion of police.

Police during investigation found flight tickets from Imphal to Kolkata and train tickets from their possession. It is suspected that more people are involved in the racket.  Sahadevkhunta PS IIC Jayant Behera said the duo were caught red handed when tampering the ATM. They said they were engineers. They would be handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) since the incident occurred under their jurisdiction.

Notably, in May first week around Rs 36 lakh was looted from several ATM kiosks in the town and till now no breakthrough is made by police.
