Tension prevailed in the Rajabagicha area here after a clash between two groups of neighbouring streets on Thursday. Police which rushed to the spot was also targeted by the warring groups.
According to sources, residents of Sarvodayapur and Sweeper Colony indulged in a verbal duel over a dispute during the idol immersion ceremony of Goddess Durga on October 1. Soon, the two groups hurled glass bottles and stones at each other and blocked the main road.
The police forces rushed to the spot but the situation further deteriorated when the irate mob hurled bottles and pelted stones also at the police personnel injuring two IICs of nearby police stations, sources said.
To ward off any further untoward incidents, the Police Commissioner and the DCP rushed to review the incident.
The Purighat and Badambadi police station IICs were injured in the incident. As many as 25 persons from both the groupswere detained by the police, the sources added.
