2 dozen city public schools running sans NOCs

Over two dozen public schools in the State capital are found operating without authorisation, raising concern over the future of students enrolled in these educational institutions.

The Directorate of Secondary Education has issued a notification asking the students’ parents not to admit their children to such schools.

“Complaints are being received from different quarters that some public schools are running unauthorisedly. Due to lack of information, some parents are admitting their wards in these unauthorised institutions, thereby causing problems as a consequence thereof,” the notification reads.

“The parents are advised not to admit their wards in the schools which have not been granted no-objection certificates (NOCs) by the competent authority,” the Director of Secondary Education said in the notification.

However, no action has been taken yet to find out the schools running without obtaining NOC from the competent authorities like the CBSE and the ICSE.

According to reports, hundreds of English-medium schools are being operated in Khordha district, out of which only 48 public schools have obtained NOCs. Similarly, out of 67, only 38 public schools have been granted NOCs by the authorities in Bhubaneswar. The remaining 29 schools are yet to obtain NOCs. However, no exemplary action has been taken so far against the 29 unauthorised schools.
