Two persons, including a girl, died on the spot and another sustained critical injuries in a road mishap on Saturday night near the Khamarpada Chowk on Paradip-Daitary Expressway.
The mishap occurred when two bikes collided with each other and then a truck ran over them. The deceased were identified as Bichitra Nayak, an assistant sales manager of Bajaj Alianz in Kendrapada and Jayasmita Swain of Khadianga. The injured was Sangram Keshari Mohanty, a statistics assistant of Kendrapada CDMO office. On Sunday, the locals keeping the two dead bodies on the busy NH-5(A) staged a roadblock for over five hours by burning tyres at the Khamarapada Chowk demanding Rs 30 lakh as compensation to the deceased’s families. The road blockade was withdrawn after the district administration assured the agitators that the district Collector would urge the Chief Minister to provide financial assistance to the victims’ families and the Collector would also hold a meeting on Tuesday to solve the NH problems in the district.
