The Balangir Action Committee (BAC) began a two-day bandh in the town on Wednesday.
Its demands include establishment of a permanent bench of the Orissa High Court in Balangir, resumption of Lower Suktel project work, compensation for the oustees and construction of a bypass road in the town.
Several associations have extended support to the 48-hour bandh call.
The members of the committee resorted to picketing near Government offices and banks during the bandh. Shops, business establishments, educational institutions and vehicular movement have been excluded from the ambit of the bandh.
