2 Covid hospitals, oxygen unit demanded at Angul

While Covid case loads have suddenly spiked across Odisha including in mines and industries affected Angul district, local leaders here are now giving emphasis on health infrastructure development of the district.

Keeping in mind the current Corona infection in Angul district, Deputy Speaker of State Assembly and Angul MLA Rajnikant Singh has written a letter to the Chief Minister for establishment of two Covid hospitals in Angul. He proposed for one Covid Hospital at the premises of the Medical College at Talcher and the second one at the Eye Hospital premises.

Though construction has been completed, both the hospitals are yet to be functioned. Singh requested the CM to do the needful to convert the hospitals’ infrastructure to Covid hospital for which patients of Angul, Boudh and Deogarh districts can be benefited.Similarly, the Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) has no ownoxygen plant. The inordinate delay to establish the proposed pressure swing absorption (PSA) oxygen plant at Angul is resented by the people. “The proposed PM Care-funded oxygen plant at Angul DHH needs to be established on war footing,” told senior lawyer and activist PradeepPanda.

The proposed plant can directly supply oxygen to hospital bedsthrough a dedicated pipeline, he added.

In the meantime, the Collector, Angul informed that sample collection and swab testing were conducted at the DHH and Mobile Health Units in different areas of Angul.

Many intellectuals of the district opine that even if there is presence of many PSUs and mega private industries in Angul, the district which has been reeling under many industry and mine related problems doesn’t have the required health infrastructure yet, like a medical college or super specialty hospital.
