The Jeypore Town police seized two trucks of cattle during a patrolling in the wee hours of Monday. The trucks were carrying a total of 53 buffalos and cows, informed a police official.
The seizure assumes significance in the wake of allegations made by the Go Suraksha Samiti, RSS and VHP that over 1,000 buffalos and cows are being transported from the Jeypore area to slaughter houses of Andhra Pradesh and Telegana every week. These organizations have also submitted a memorandum to Koraput district Collector Yamini Sadangi in this regard.
Activists Narayan, lingraj Patra, lalit Agrawal, Sujit Pani, Subhendu Bramha have requested the police to hand over the animals to them so that they can safeguard them.
