The Sadar police have registered a case against four persons, including a former branch manager and a cashier of the Gramya Bank, Rasalpur branch for fraud and cheating.

The case was registered after the bank branch’s incumbent manager Prabhakar Sahu lodged an FIR against them alleging financial embezzlement that occurred in 2010, said Sadar PS IIC Dayanidhi Dash.

Sahu alleged that the branch’s the then manger Bhabendra Biswal and cashier Basanta Panda have committed the fraud in connivance with two civilian touts.

The fraud came to the fore when some account holders of the branch received loan recovery notices from the bank stating their outstanding amounts which they availed in 2010. The debt recovery notices were sent by the incumbent branch manager. The account holders had neither applied nor availed the loans during the period.

“The duo is still serving in other branches of the bank in the district. Two civilians involved in the scam are absconding. So far, 10 such cases have been detected and the embezzled amount is around Rs5 lakh and it could be more,” said bank sources.
