Two brothers were arrested by the Commissionerate police on Sunday in connection with the brutal murder of a youth at Bankuala village on Friday on the city outskirts under the Saheed Nagar police station.
The Saheed Nagar police arrested Kahnu Pradhan and his brother Balaram Pradhan for their alleged complicity in the murder of BJP supporter Sushant Kumar alias Susa Nayak. They were forwarded to the court.
The accused reportedly picked up a quarrel with Sushant over pasting of panchayat poll posters on the walls of betel shop run by the brother duo.
The deceased was allegedly mercilessly beaten on Friday. He was immediately shifted to the Capital Hospital by his family members where he was declared brought dead.
Following this, residents of Bankuala on Saturday staged a road blockade along the Bhubaneswar-Puri bypass road demanding adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased and arrest of the culprits behind the incident.
The vehicular movement was affected on the route for over two hours. However, the blockade was lifted after assurance from senior officials that the culprits would be brought to books.
