Two bikers were injured after they were entangled by a Chinese kite string (Manja) at Balikuda on the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack road on Monday on the Makar Sankranti day.
The victims were on their way to Cuttack from Niali by a motorbike when the rider's neck was cut with a stray Chinese kite string. The rider lost balance and fell from the vehicle injuring the pillion rider too.
While the bike rider suffered a cut in his neck, the pillion rider sustained severe injuries on his hand and palm.
Following the accident, the injured were rushed to the SCB Medical College Hospital here.
Notably, Cuttack police has banned sale of ‘plastic’ and Chinese ‘Manja’ strings used to fly kites.
The police on Sunday had warned of stringent action against those found flying kites using the Chinese Manja threads. But the warning and restrictions were flouted.
