2 bars sealed in city; 5 staff held

Intensifying the crackdown against the  establishments violating  the Covid-19 norms, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) sealed two bars  in the city on Saturday night.

Some BMC senior officials, including Zonal Deputy Commissioner Anshuman Rath, were locked in a lift as the staffs of one of the bars allegedly snapped the power supply during the raid. The officials were stuck in the lift for around 30 to 40 minutes. Rath said, “Our teams found the bar crowded even after 10 pm and drinks were being served. The squad members were misbehaved during the raid. It is unfortunate that some of us were detained.”

“Henceforth, we will ensure that there is adequate deployment of police force during such enforcement activities,” Rath added.

“As pregnant women and children were present in the bars, we have not imposed any fine. But a case has been lodged in the Chandrasekharpur police station,” he said. Meanwhile, Commissionerate police on Sunday arrested five staffs of the two bars in connection with the incident.
