Three youths, including two students of a private management college, had to face the music for misbehaving with a girl in front of her mother at Chhatabar on the city outskirts on Sunday.
The trio was tied to a tree and beaten black and blue by irate locals before being rescued by police.
Among the accused, while one youth is from Madanpur, the two others are the students of a private management college. The victim is a daughter of former Army personnel.
Reports said that the three youths stalked and misbehaved with the mother-daughter duo while they were taking a morning walk on the Pitapali-Barang road. Showing courage, the girl and her mother managed to nab one youth and started shouting, following which locals rushed to the spot.
A few locals chased and caught the two others, who had fled from the spot, near the Palaspur area.
Later, the irate locals of Chhatabar village tied the trio to a tree and thrashed them without mercy for their misdeed with the girl and her mother on the road.
On receiving information, Mendhasal police outpost personnel reached the spot and rescued the youths from the clutches of the villagers.
Subsequently, the matter was subsequently compromised after the parents of the accused youths apologised to the mother-daughter duo and the locals.
