As many as 19 women members of a Self-Help Group (SHG) sustained injuries after the floor of the Pittala gram panchayat office in Ganjam district caved in on Monday.
According to reports, the floor collapsed when a meeting of the SHG was going on.
The injured were admitted to the Hinjili hospital and five of them were later shifted to the MKCG Medical College Hospital here as their conditions deteriorated.
locals pointed out that the floor of office building had been washed away during the cyclone Phailin in 2013, following which it was filled with sand. It was later repaired with poor quality work, which led to the mishap on Monday, they said. The exact reason behind the incident was yet to be officially ascertained.
