So far, 19 persons administered with anti-Covid-19 vaccine in the State have showed side effects, informed Health and Family Welfare Department Director and State Vaccine-in-charge Bijay Panigrahi on Wednesday.
He told mediapersons that cases of minor side effects have been reported. While some have complained of inflation at the place where they took the jab, others suffered from fever in 24 hours of taking the vaccine. Regarding the death of a 27-year-old youth of Nuapada district allegedly due to Covid-19 vaccination, Panigrahi said the youth had vomited blood after taking the jab on January 23. On Tuesday, he was sent to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, where he suffered from brain hemorrhage and later died.
Though his family members alleged that he died due to the vaccine, the postmortem report suggested that the cause of the death was not related to the vaccination, he added. Panigrahi further informed that so far, 1,77,090 people have been vaccinated in the State. On Wednesday, a drive was underway at 11 session sites in Bhubaneswar to vaccinate 2,360 people. The first shot was administered to sanitation worker Biranchi Nayak at the Capital Hospital. The process to vaccinate the remaining beneficiaries out of the total 3.50 lakh healthcare workers would begin on Thursday. The list of beneficiaries for the second phase of vaccination is likely to be made public by February 1, he added.
