Even though there have been massive seizures of consignments of ganja in the State and many smugglers have been taken into custody, the trade continues unabated.
In a glaring example, the Gocchipada policee seized 180 kg ganja from a car near Nedipadar village in Kandhamal district on Friday.
The cops also arrested three persons in connection.
The peddlers were identified as Prakash Sahu of Nedipadar village, Kasta Rana and Sisu Rana of Binikimendi village.
As per reports, the Gochhipada police got a tipoff on the transportation of a contraband consignment which was smuggled out of the district.
Immediately, they set a trap and intercepted a Honda car at Pudeni Chhak near Nedipadar village. During the search, they found several bags containing 180 kg ganja in the car.
Following the seizure, the three occupants of the car were taken into custody for failing to produce necessary documents for transportation of the ganja.
The trio were booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and forwarded to court, police said.
