Call it fate’s cruel joke. An 18-year-old ill fated boy, Sanatan Nayak’s head has increased abnormally, whereas he has failed to stand on his feet. The boy is fully dependent on his parents for completing his daily routine life. Due to paucity of funds, his family members have failed to provide him treatment. According to sources, Sanatan Nayak, son of poverty-stricken Basant Nayak of Kansara village, is suffering from a mysterious disease. He fails to stand on his feet as his backbone has bowed due to the increasing weight of his head.
He was absolutely normal at the time of his birth like other kids. But when Sanatan was only six months’ old, his head started increasing. As a result, his father took him to Kendrapada and later he was treated at a Cuttack-based hospital. The doctor later had asked the family members of Sanatan to conduct head operation as water stored in his head.
As a result, Basant, who is a truck driver, arranged money by selling his wife’s ornaments and also agriculture land. After the operation, once again, Sanatan’s head started increasing and the child lost the ability to stand on his legs. But by this time, the parents had been exhausted of their money. Now, they had to only act as mute spectator to Sanatan’s ordeal.
In each passing year, Sanatan’s head started increasing and his backbone bowed. The doctor at SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack, advised to go for operation of Sanatan’s backbone and left leg. But where is money to be gotIJ
“Though I approached the district administration and the local MlA to provide financial assistance for the treatment of my son, they did not pay any heed. As such, I’ve no options than to watch the situation helplessly,” said Basant with tears rolling down from eyes.
Meanwhile, the villagers and the local sarpanch urged the Government, and non-Government organizations to lend their support to the poor family. When contacted, district Collector Debaraj Senapati stated that he would take steps to provide proper treatment to the boy.”
