Good and Services Tax (GST) officials on Wednesday seized another 18 bags of coins of different denominations which were transported from Kolkata to the city on second consecutive day. The coins were meant to be delivered to one Uday Biswal of the city.
Biswal claimed that he has permission from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to procure the coins. He supplies the coins to malls, toll gate and other business establishments for a commission.
However, a GST official said prime facie it appears that the coin transportation is illegal. But further investigations are on to collect more details.
Similarly, DGP Dr RP Sharma said if there is any criminal angle to the coin transportation, police would investigate into it.
In two days, the GST officials have seized a total of 46 bags of coins. On Tuesday, 28 bags of coins were seized from two buses in Baramunda Bus Stand and the Vani Vihar Bus Stand.
The staffs of two buses were detained for interrogation. But the detainees claimed that that they had no inkling for what purpose the coins are going to be used.
