With a view to bring economically-backward people under social inclusion and to the mainstream, the Vedanta Foundation organised a mass marriage ceremony for 170 couples at Belmba near lanjigarh on Sunday.
The marriage rituals were conducted in traditional trend, followed by official registration without any exchange of dowry or ostentation. The event was inaugurated by Sesa Sterlite COO KK Dave and lanjigarh MlA Balabhadra Majhi. On the occasion, MlA Majhi, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Srimati Majhi, block Chairman Sasmita Majhi and Sarapanch Pradeep Majhi spoke on the benefits of the initiative.
Vedanta Foundation CEO lona Nayak said that this project would benefit the underprivileged people at large towards giving them a social inclusion and facilitating them in getting Government schemes, as many couples get deprived of the schemes and their children also face problems in social inclusion due to unavailability of marriage certificates.
Around 5,000 people from lanjigarh, Muniguda and Kalyansingpur blocks attended the event. Marriage section Sub-registrar Khirod Behera collected related documents for issuing marriage certificates.
