After recovering 32 stolen lED televisions worth nearly Rs4 lakh, the Sahadevkhunta police here on Tuesday arrested 17 people in this connection.
According to district SP Awinash Kumar the main culprit Manoj Das (25), a native of Machhapada, Baisinga of neighbouring Mayurbhanj district along with 17 other persons had looted the TVs from Digvijay electronics located at Station square.
However, he sold most of the stolen TVs in his area at a cheaper rate.
Manoj was in-charge of the godown of the Digvijay electronics which is located 2 km away from the showroom at Sahadevkhunta and after stealing the items he clandestinely was selling them to different people in different areas.
The proprietor of the showroom Prabhakar Pattnaik had lodged an FIR with police after he found as many as 76 pieces of lED TVs were missing from the store during stock verification.
After sustained interrogation the accused admitted the offence, the SP added.
