A 16-year-old girl of Baliapada under the Nemalo police station in Cuttack district committed suicide out of shame and social stigma after her obscene photos were circulated through Facebook. The deceased Gitanjali Jena, a student of Baliapada High School, had appeared at matriculation examination this year.
According to the FIR filed by Gitanjali’s father Arun Kumar Jena, the 18-year-old accused Kamalakanta Malla, a neighbourer, studying +2 second year Arts in Mahapurusha Achyutananda Mahavidyalaya, had first taken some nude photographs of his daughter secretly while she was bathing and urinating a few days back.
later, with the photos Malla started blackmailing her and kept physical relation with her forcefully. He also took snaps of their sex acts and circulated them to his friends by uploading those in Facebook, the FIR said. The FIR said the girl consumed poison on Wednesday night. Her family members took her to the Nischintakoili CHC, where she was declared dead.
local sources said villagers had persuaded Malla to marry the girl at the last village meeting on Wednesday night, but he refused. A search is on to nab the accused, informed Salepur SDPO Surya Kant Ray.
