The Gajapati District Administration under the direct supervision of district Collector Basudev Bahinipati on Thursday handed over 16 rescued children, mostly tribals, to their parents.
The kids had been staying amid many problems at Rastriya Dalit Institute, a children’s home at Balipada village in Ganjam district. Two persons, who had shifted the children to the rehabilitation house, were arrested.
According to senior district officials, some dalals had managed to take the innocent children to the children’s home by motivating their poor parents about the excellent facilities available there, a few days ago.
They, along with 30 others, were kept at the children’s home which was shot of basic minimum facilities, let alone toilets. Acting on a tip off that the children were being forced to live miserably at the children’s home, the Ganjam District Administration had raided the home and rescued the children on Wednesday and informed about the incident to the Gajapati counterpart.
later, the Gajapati district Collector brought the 16 rescued children back to Parlakhemundi the same day and arranged their temporary stay at Swadhara, a children’s home. They all belong to Mohana and R Udyagiri blocks.
Following proper counseling, they were handed over to their parents on Thursday with the assurance of all possible helps for their studies.
