In the first phase, at least 1,531 migrant construction workers working in Telangana have been identified to avail the benefits of Odisha Government. In November last year, the State Government had taken a decision to enlist construction workers engaged outside the State to avail social benefits.
Odisha Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (OBOCWWB) president Subhas Singh told mediapersons here that following the Government decision in November a special camp was held in Telangana between January 2 and 15 and as many as 1,531 construction labourers of our State have been identified. “They all will now get all Government benefits meant for them,” said Singh, adding that such camps will be held across the country to enlist the construction workers.
Till now, construction workers engaged in the State were being registered with the Welfare Board which entitled them to a host of social security schemes in the event of accident and death. Besides pension, medical and maternity benefits, assistance for building house and education was also being provided. “These benefits would now be extended to the workers outside the State,” added Singh. Claiming that Odisha is the first State to extend such facilities to the construction labourers, Singh said.
