A total of 151 students were booked for adopting unfair means like copying on the first day of the High School Certificate (Matriculation) Examination which began at 2,882 examination centres across the State on Monday.

The Board of Secondary Education (BSE), which conducts the examination, reaffirmed that it is determined to completely curb the malpractice menace in the examination.

“Our squads have booked a total of 151 students for malpractice on the first day of the examination,” said BSE President DP Nanda and hoped that the number would drastically come down in the days ahead.  Notably, at least 300 students had been caught adopting unfair means on the first day of the Matriculation examination last year.

A little over six lakh students are appearing at the examination this year which will continue till March 4.

Sources in the BSE informed that apart from some minor hiccups, the examination went off smoothly on the day across the State, including in the Maoist-afflicted districts.
