15,000 students to get free laptops

The State Government will provide free laptops to nearly 15,000 meritorious students after declaration of Plus II examination results, official sources said.

While the Information and Technology (IT) Department has been asked to procure the laptops by June 15, the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) would draw up a list of 15,000 students on the basis of merit after declaration of the Plus II results. The laptops would be distributed before commencement of the new academic session.

It may be noted that during the launching of the State Youth Policy, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced that free laptops would be provided to bridge the digital divide between students and special focus would be given to girls and students belonging to the SC and ST communities.
