15,000 farmers to join B'pur agri fest

More than 15,000 farmers from south Odisha are expected to join the three-day regional Krushi Mahotsav to be held here from December 28. While Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate it, Ministers, MlAs and MPs of all the southern districts will participate in the festival. More than 200 stalls carrying products and techniques relating to agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and fisheries will be opened in the festival.

Around 5,000 farmers will be imparted training on the state- of- the- art mechanisms and technical know-how on harvesting, plantation, nursery, pre and post natal care of agriculture and horticulture products and plants and existing research output on modern method of agriculture including qualitative and quantitative aspects.

The farmers will be sensitized about different procedures and mechanisms to be adopted to make their products more qualitative and profitable.  Hundred farmers from each block from all the ten southern districts have been invited to participate, sources said.

One of the basic objectives of the mega festival is to train and disseminate knowledge to the farmers as to how best they can use modern technology in the field of agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and fisheries so as to make them economically independent, said an official of the Agricultural department.

Notably, the State had already organised similar festivals for the farmers of western Odisha at Sambalpur and Central region of the State at Baleswar earlier this year.  This is the third such festival going to be organised at Brahmapur.
