The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has so far issued demotion orders to 147 builders who have constructed apartment buildings by violating the BDA guidelines.
Cases had been lodged against 423 builders for violation of BDA norms as per the Section 91(1) of the Odisha Development Authority Act 1982. But the OSD of the BDA has so far finalised 147 cases and served demolition orders. Of them, three apartments - one each at Kharavel Nagar, Ashok Nagar and Jayadev Nagar - have been demolished since 2006.
The Minister said cases of the rest 276 builders are pending with the OSD. Of 144 builders, against whom demolition orders have been issued, 41 have managed to get stay orders from different courts and 15 have applied for regularization of their apartments under a reprieve scheme initiated by the BDA in 2007-08.
