13-year-old rape victim gives birth to baby girl

A 13-year-old rape victim of Madhusudanpur under the Jenapur police station on Tuesday night gave birth to a baby girl in the Government hospital at Jajpur Road.

Doctors at the hospital said the girl had developed complexities after conceiving the child because she is so young. Her condition was stable and both she and her baby were released from the hospital..

The victim girl, a Class VI student, was allegedly raped by a village youth, Kulamani Sahoo, last year when her parents were away from the village. Her father had filed an FIR at the Jenapur police station on January 30 this year against Sahoo after he came to know that his daughter was pregnant. Sahoo was arrested three months back, said police station IIC Atul Krushna Dash.

Since last four months, the victim has been staying in a short-stay home at Jajpur Road. When contacted, superintendent of the short stay home Ahalya Jena said, “We are taking the care of the rape victim and her daughter.”
