A teenage tribal boy lost his left hand after he came in contact with a live wire.
Birasingh Munda (12) of Siriakhali village under Sukinda block in Jajpur distinct touched wire of an 11 KV line which was hanging at a low height on November 19. The poor boy was treated at the SCB Medical College Hospital. But the hospital authorities did not take proper care of him. Instead, they demanded Rs 10,000 from the victim’s father towards treatment cost.
Finally, after the State Human Rights Commission took up the matter, the hospital authorities woke up to take care of the injured boy. The commission had directed the hospital for taking proper care of the child.
“He would have been killed, had the commission not intervened. His left hand had to be amputated as the wounds had got aggravated. Hence, criminal cases should be slapped against the SCB authorities for treatment negligence,” charged Biswanath Patra, a human rights activist.
