Puri Additional District Sessions Judge BP Bas on Thursday deferred hearing of the bail application of 12 Shree Jagannath Temple servitors, who are currently languishing in jail on charges of assaulting scribes during Niladri Bije ritual of lord Jagannath and his siblings on July 17.

The bail application hearing had been differed twice for want of submission of case diary and, today, it was differed as the injury report was not presented before the court by the prosecution. Hearing was posted for Saturday.

Notably, three scribes belonging to TV channels had filed complaints with the Simhadwar police that the servitors attacked them and damaged their cameras while they were covering the incident of faceoff between the servitors and district Collector Arabind Agarwal over climbing of unauthorised persons on to the chariots.

The Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate had refused their bail plea and sent them to jail custody. They, then, approached the District Sessions Judge Court for bail.

Though senior temple servitors had tried to persuade the Collector to withdraw police complaints, the latter didn’t agree.

Now they are planning to meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in this regard, sources said.
