A dozen of gamblers were arrested in an anti-gambling drive by police ahead of the New Year from a hotel room in Rourkela on Saturday.
The police also seized over Rs 12.27 lakh in cash, two cars, five bikes, mobile phones and seven packets of playing cards from the den which was operating out of a hotel on the Gurudwara Road.
Acting on a tipoff, a team led by DSP Asim Panda raided the gambling den and rounded up the gamblers on the spot.
“Further investigation is underway to find out the involvement of other players in the operation of the gambling den,” said Panda.
All the accused have been booked under Section/s 269/270/34 of IPC and the Orissa Prevention of Gambling (OPG) Act.
