Intensifying their crackdown against ganja smugglers, the Malkangiri police have seized a total of 12.53 quintals of ganja and arrested seven persons in the last three days.
One pistol and seven live bullets were seized from the possession of the arrested peddlers. Out of the arrested seven persons, two are from Tamil Nadu and one is from Chhattisgarh.
The arrested accused persons were identified as Malaichamy C (46), D Selvam (31), Sukdeb Randhari (30), Khagapati Bhatra (40) Ramesh Naina (28), Prasanjit Mandal (19) and Sukesh Baroi (23).
In 2019, till now, 63 cases havebeen detected under the NDPS Act.
Total of 15.554.6 kg ganja has been seized. As many as 133 accused persons have been arrested and 41 vehicles have been seized. Out of 133 arrested accused persons, 46 are from outside Odisha.
In 2018, 102 cases under the NDPS Act were detected in the district and a total of 17.118 kg of ganja was seized. 179 persons were arrested and 83 vehicles were seized. Out of 179 arrested persons, 89 arrestees were from outside the State.
