The Dhanu Yatra of Bargarh, the world’s biggest open-air theatre, began on Thursday.
Baragarh MP Prabhas Kumar Singh inaugurated the 11-day festival in evening. Bargarh has transformed temporarily into Mathurapuri, the capital of the kingdom of mythological demon king Kansa.
Day one of the festival began with the wedding of King Kansa’s sister Devaki with Basudev.
Kansa is considered the main attraction of the Yatra. The yatra is referred to as the world’s biggest open-air theatre as the whole area transforms into the kingdom of Kansa and every resident of the town becomes a subject of the king.
While the demon king would run his kingdom from Hatapada, Ambapalli has turned Gopapura.
Baragarh district Collector, SP and other senior State and district level officials were present on the inaugural day. The open air theatre would culminate on January 24.
