Age is indeed just a number for 109-year-old Baishnab Pradhan of Khojapalli village in the Khallikote area of Ganjam district. The centenarian, who resides with his 90-year-old wife after being estranged by two sons, has been resorting to organic farming to make ends meet. The man cultivates vegetables on a patch of farmland near his house.
Needless to say, Pradhan is able to carry out the daily chores conveniently despite his age. The State Government’ monthly old age pension and the 10-kg rice per month provided to the old couple under the Food Security Act ration cards have also aided the duo’s survival. “I have consumed foods cultivated organically throughout my life, which might have enabled me to stay fit at this old age,” said Pradhan.
