108 Ambulance staff stir: Govt mulls ESMA

Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and Chief Secretary AP Padhi on Wednesday discussed with the district Collectors and SPs via videoconferencing about possible measures to meet the situation that could arise out of the strike of the 108 Ambulance service staffers from March 18.

The Minister and the Chief Secretary said they discussed alternative arrangements to be made during the 108 Ambulance staff strike.

They also hinted that if need be, the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) could be invoked during the strike.

Notably, 108 Ambulance staffers have threatened to launch a cease work agitation from March 18if their seven-point charter of demands is not fulfilled.

They have decided to stage a dharna at the lower PMG in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.

The emergency services staff today joined work wearing black badges and staged a dharna in front of the district Collector offices across the State.

Notably, provision of minimum wage, an annual increment of 15 per cent and rest house are among the major demands of the aggrieved staffers.
