Employees of the 108 Ambulance service on Saturday called off their strike launched from Friday midnight after payment of their pending salaries, informed 108 Ambulance Service Workers’ Association secretary Manoj Kumar Sahoo.
Earlier in the day, the ambulance service had come to a grinding halt across the State as the employees went on strike demanding timely payment of salaries.
The ambulance drivers, emergency medical technicians and attendants had joined the stir. The association had earlier launched a similar agitation in March this year demanding fulfilment of its 12-point charter of demands.
Notably, as many as 420 numbers of 108 Ambulances are currently operating in the State in which more than 3,000 employees, including drivers and paramedical staffs, have been appointed.
The Ziqitza Health Care ltd, a private organisation operates the 108 Ambulance service. The aggrieved employees were forced to hit the streets as the concerned authorities failed to keep their promise of providing the pending salaries by December 10. However, after the payment they joined duties “in the larger interest of the people”.
