107-year-old Bargarh school in shambles

Published on:

Kendra primary school of Gaisilet under Gaisilet Block was established in 1906 by the local people. Now, the Government school is in shambles. The school has five classes from class I to V having three teachers against the required strength of five. While the class rooms are in a dilapidated condition, its boundary wall has turned rickety.

Only two rooms are useful, while for taking classes, the students and teachers have to sit under a tree. The school had over 300 students in past, but due to its poor state only 68 students are reading now in the school from class I to V. There are 34 boys and 34 girls in the school and over 26 students belong to ST, 13 SC and 28 are OBCs. lack of sufficient teachers is a major impediment in the normal functioning of the school, said its headmaster.

Notably, many eminent persons like former  Utakal Sanskruti University VC Dr Sadhucharan Panda, educationalist professor Minaketan Purohit, Deputy Director Dr Shashibhusan Pradhan, former CDMO Dr Mahesh Chandra Panda and Dr Sabitabala Dash among others read in the school in past.

But due to continuous neglect by the Government, the school has lost its past sparkle, alleged locals.
