100 Pink autos flagged off for city women

After introducing 203 Pink autorickshaws specifically for women in the capital city in June, the Commissionerate Police on Sunday included 100 more Pink autos into the chart for the better convenience of the fair sex in the second phase.

DGP Sanjeev Marik flagged off the second phase women oriented auto service here at the Commissionerate Police headquarters.

“Our aim is to ensure safety and security of women, besides providing them better facilities. The Pink auto-rickshaw service would certainly help women passengers move in the city comfortably,” said Marik.

Commissioner Dr RP Sharma said the additional Pink auto-rickshaws were included to meet the demand of women passengers.

“There was a demand for more Pink auto-rickshaws for women. Now the total auto-rickshaw number is 303 and we hope it would cater to the increasing demand of the women,” said Sharma, adding that four stands have been developed for the 100 new auto-rickshaws in the city. The rising crimes against women has prompted the authorities to take this initiative.
