A 10-year-old girl died after being hit by a jeep reportedly used for electioneering by BJD people for Kandhamal bypoll at Dudimandi under the Khajuripada police station in Kandhamal district on Sunday.
Irate villagers staged a road blockade at Dudimandi and damaged at least two vehicles passing through the road and demanded compensation for the deceased’s family and immediate arrest of those responsible for the tragedy, said Khajuripada police station IIC MM Pradhan.
The vehicle which allegedly carried BJD supporters with the party symbol ran over the girl when she was walking on the road, the IIC added. However, the police managed to pacify the agitators and assured assistance to the kin of the victim’s family.
